TECHNICAL TRANSLATION
Technical translation, as the name suggests, encompasses specialised texts that contain very specific terminology.
Engineering, automotive, chemical, electronics, mining, telecommunications, metallurgy and construction are some of the fields that make up the sector.
EVERY SECTOR IS A WORLD OF ITS OWN
Technical translation encompasses very diverse sectors, which require native translators specialised in the area related to the text to be translated. Translating a mobile phone manual is not the same as translating technical product specifications or working procedures. Every sector has its own specific characteristics and terminology that makes each one unique and different. And translators must be familiar with the professional jargon used in each one. This is why it is important that the technical translator is not only native in the target language, but also specialised in that specific topic.
We specialise in:
- Industrial translation
- Aeronautical translation
- Construction translation
- Engineering projects translation
- Energy sector translation
- IT translation
- Architecture translation
- Telecommunications translation

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TECHNICAL TRANSLATION AND SCIENTIFIC TRANSLATION
Many people do not understand the distinction between scientific translation and technical translation. Although they have many features in common, they are completely different. Like medical translation, scientific translation is one of the more delicate areas of translation, as it requires translators to work in a very thorough and detailed way. An error could quite literally be fatal!
One of the most significant challenges for scientific translators is the language used; written by scientists, and covering fields such as medicine, science and technology. Scientific language is academic, specialised and theoretical. It is also intended to transmit knowledge. The most commonly translated documents are scientific articles, essays, textbooks and treatises. The target audience is usually a specific scientific or academic community or, in the case of promotional texts, the educated general public.
In short, it is common for these two terms to be used somewhat interchangeably, suggesting that technical translation refers only to scientific fields, and that scientific translation is related to scientific documents. But in reality, technical translation and scientific translation can be both similar and different. As always, everything depends on the text to be translated, insofar as scientific and technical language are both distinguished by their function, target audience, context and text type.
